May 11 Update

The Town of Innisfil is providing biweekly updates to enhance communications on the Killarney Beach Road construction project. These updates will outline ongoing and upcoming activities throughout the 2026 construction season. Our goal is to help businesses plan ahead, recognizing that construction-related disruptions to operations are expected in 2026.

Project update provided on: May 11, 2026

Project status

There were a total of seven days since construction commenced. Dewatering for Phase 2 construction has been affected by recent extreme rain events resulting in an exceedingly high water table which has also impacted the schedule. Dewatering for Phase 2 continues. Work on Phase 1 storm sewers, road reconstruction, curb, and gutters will take place in the next two weeks. Phase 2 road closure is tentatively expected for June 8.

Current phase and potential impacts

Construction: Currently occurring within the Phase 1 Project Area (20th Sideroad to Church Drive)

  • There is currently a closure of Killarney Beach Road. Local Traffic (including business patrons) will be permitted access. All other traffic will be required to follow signed detours.
  • Properties with driveways impacted will receive a notice a minimum of 48 hours in advance.

Dewatering (installation of pipes required to remove water during construction): Currently occurring in the Phase 2 Project Area (east of Church Drive to east of Corner Avenue)

  • There will be a closure of the eastbound lane, from east of the Morgan Russell Arena and Community Centre to 1295 Killarney Beach Road. Various driveways may be impacted along this stretch for several hours at a time due to the installation of dewatering lines. Impacted property owners will receive notice a minimum of 48 hours in advance.

Driveway closures: No new updates

  • As the project progresses this season, all reasonable effort will be made to maintain vehicle access to driveways. However, there will be some temporary interruptions to access during construction. Access will be restored as quickly as possible. Multiple temporary driveway restrictions and closures will occur at various times to facilitate construction activities, with durations ranging from short term (approximately 1 to 8 hours) to longer term (up to 48 hours). The contractor will have a full-time Public Relations Representative assigned to the project, who will provide 48-hour advance notice to property owners affected by driveway restrictions. The Public Relations Representative will be available throughout the 2026 construction season to coordinate access and respond to public inquiries.

Business support:

  • Business support is provided on an ongoing basis through the Economic Development Office through initiatives such as the DMZ Innisfil business support program, promotional efforts such as the "Taste of Innisfil" and "Shop Innisfil" campaigns, as well as through customized business support.   • In addition to the services above, the Town of Innisfil Communications & Community Engagement team is preparing a "Shop Innisfil" promotional video to ensure residents are aware that businesses on Killarney Beach Road remain open during construction despite potential lane closures. This is expected to be complete by late spring.

Signage:

  • Requests for additional signage were received, and additional signage will be installed shortly.
  • There are two types of signage which will be visible within the construction area throughout the project:
    • Statutory Compliance Signage: This is required by the Ministry of Transportation for all road closures in the Province of Ontario. Town staff do not have full discretion over the content of these signs.
    • Town Signage: Additional wayfinding signage have been provided by the Town to assist in communicating detours, parking availability, and that businesses along Killarney Beach Road remain open for business.

Dust mitigation: No new updates

  • Dust mitigation will be addressed by the contractor for the duration of the project.
