Integrated Sustainability Master Plan
To meet the challenges of climate change, the Town of Innisfil is working on an Integrated Sustainability Master Plan (ISMP). The goal of this plan is to create a cohesive strategy that outlines actions we can take at both corporate and community levels.
The ISMP will identify key goals and actions needed to:
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related costs
- Manage energy use and carbon
- Increase climate resilience (i.e. our ability to prepare for and respond to climate events)
- Develop a circular economy (i.e. sharing, reusing, repairing, and recycling existing resources)
- Improve how we use resources and the state of our natural environment
The ISMP uses three main pathways to guide actions for a "Sustainable Innisfil". These pathways include mitigation, adaptation, and operational sustainability.

Sustainability is complex so having a digital twin of the town may be a good way to collect all the relevant documents, datasets, and goals.

Solar Panel Charging stations in new developments
I was part of the Sept 7th focus group. I wanted to add an idea I had. We talked about holding developers more accountable. Perhaps one way is to have solar panels a part of the build. The energy it generates can either be linked up to a electric car charging station, or to be used in house. This can also be incorporated into the town facilities as well. There are parking lots with solar panels providing shade for cars, while also act as charging stations.
