Will the Town allow cannabis retailers in Innisfil?
This
is a matter for the new Town Council to decide after they take office in
December 2018. Municipalities have the opportunity to opt-out of allowing
retail stores by January 22, 2019.
Does the Town intend to opt-out of allowing cannabis retailers in Innisfil?
Town
Council will decide whether or not cannabis retail establishments should be
allowed in Innisfil. Staff is looking for public input on the matter while they
do their due diligence to ensure Council is prepared to make an informed
decision.
Who provides the license to private retailers to operate in Innisfil?
Should
the Town choose to allow private retailers to operate in Innisfil, the Alcohol
and Gaming Commission of Ontario, the independent provincial regulator, will
license and regulate private cannabis retail in Innisfil.
Should
the Town choose to allow private retailers to operate in Innisfil, store locations
will be regulated by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). When
a store location application is received, the AGCO Registrar will initiate a
public notice process for the municipality and its residents to make written
submissions to the Registrar within a 15-day period.
