The Town of Innisfil is reconstructing Big Bay Point Road from 20th Sideroad to Lake Simcoe to accommodate traffic growth, enhance safety, and support active transportation. The redesigned road will feature new multi-use paths, making it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to access nearby trails and key destinations like Friday Harbour.

Proposed improvements include:

  • Road rehabilitation and lane widening
  • Intersection upgrades, including permanent traffic signals at Big Bay Point Road and 20th Sideroad
  • Traffic-calming measures
  • Active transportation upgrades, including paved shoulders and a multi-use trail
  • Drainage improvements

The improvements are recommended through the Town's Transportation Master Plan.

Temporary Signalization

To improve safety and traffic flow ahead of the reconstruction, a temporary traffic signal was installed at the intersection of Big Bay Point Road and 20th Sideroad. This interim measure will help manage increasing traffic volumes until the permanent intersection improvements are complete. Construction began in late 2025 and concluded in spring 2026.

Are there plans for the road between 20th side road and prince William way?

    Jennwolfe asked 25 days ago

The section of Big Bay Point Road, between 20th Sideroad and Prince William Way falls under the City of Barrie's jurisdiction, not the Town of Innisfil. The Town is currently reconstructing Big Bay Point Road from  20th Sideroad  to Lake Simcoe. For information on plans west of 20th Sideroad, please contact the City of Barrie

Thank you for your inquiry. The Big Bay Point Road reconstruction project, from 20th Sideroad to Lake Simcoe, is planned to be delivered in two phases. The specific phasing has not yet been finalized; the Town is currently working with the project consultant to determine the most appropriate approach based on ongoing technical analysis.

Construction for Phase 1 is anticipated to begin in 2027, subject to budget approval and timing. Phase 2 is expected to occur beyond 2029. The project will include paved shoulders and a multi-use trail as part of the overall scope.
