Big Bay Point Reconstruction
The Town of Innisfil is reconstructing Big Bay Point Road from 20th Sideroad to Lake Simcoe to accommodate traffic growth, enhance safety, and support active transportation. The redesigned road will feature new multi-use paths, making it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to access nearby trails and key destinations like Friday Harbour.
Proposed improvements include:
- Road rehabilitation and lane widening
- Intersection upgrades, including permanent traffic signals at Big Bay Point Road and 20th Sideroad
- Traffic-calming measures
- Active transportation upgrades, including paved shoulders and a multi-use trail
- Drainage improvements
The improvements are recommended through the Town's Transportation Master Plan.
Temporary Signalization
To improve safety and traffic flow ahead of the reconstruction, a temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Big Bay Point Road and 20th Sideroad. This interim measure will help manage increasing traffic volumes until the permanent intersection improvements are complete. Construction will begin in late 2025 and is expected to finish in spring 2026.
